Polythene pallet covers

Polythene pallet covers can be manufactured from coextruded non fusion materials or from standard LDPE films designed for heat shrinking or simply to use as a dust cover.

Shrink covers are sometimes used for load stabilisation, security and weather protection. In some instances where plastic sacks are being transported, the use of pallet covers manufactured from Non Fusion films is preferred to prevent films bonding together during the heat shrinking process.

In-house manufacturing of pallet covers ensures that we can provide you with exactly the right product to meet your requirements – and quickly too. Pallet covers can be supplied as POR (perforated on the reel) or as singles. The choice is yours.

When it comes to covering your palletized product with a non-shrink LDPE low-density polyethylene (plastic) material, there are two common manufacturing designs. A pallet cover is a pallet cover, right? Well, not really. There are differing manufacturing techniques, colors, prints, shrink capabilities, resins, recycled and virgin, etc.

Gusseted Pallet Covers

1000 x 1000mm and 1000 x 1200mm are a couple of the most common pallet sizes you will find in manufacturing. These pallets allow for the cover to be produced as a gusseted cover. Gusseted, in this case basically means that the cover is form-fitted and has been produced with a seal that does not expose any extra material. With regards to gusseted covers, film production is commonly restricted by width and depth, with height being a secondary concern. This means that the cover can be 1000mm wide x 1200mm deep with a large height. Restricted, of course by the overall size of the cover (a 20′ high pallet may be a problem).

Centre-fold Pallet Covers

For larger palletized loads a different manufacturing technique is often required. For example, a pallet, which is 4′ wide x 8′ deep x 6′ high, will require a centre-fold pallet cover. Unlike the gusseted covers, this particular cover has no seals on the top just one on each side (much like a huge sandwich bag).

Although they are both are made of polyethylene, come in several thicknesses and colors, and can be printed, there are some major differences. Once a centre-fold pallet cover is installed there is bit of extra material at the top of each end which will hang down. This extra material is commonly referred to as “dog ears” on the pallet. This cover fits much like a sandwich bag would if you put it over a small rectangular box. The dog ears created by an installed centre-fold cover can be easily heat shrunk, taped down or stretch wrapped to provide the same clean look as a standard pallet cover.

Printing on this cover is done a bit differently as well. When printing on a standard cover the print repeats top to bottom. Print will repeat from left to right when dealing with a centre-fold pallet cover. Depending on the length of your palletized product and the size of your print you may get 3-5 print repeats on each cover.
