## What Are UN-Certified Bulk Bags?
UN-Certified bulk bags, or UN FIBCs ([Flexible Intermediate Bulk Containers](https://www.cliffepackaging.com/fibcs-big-bags)), are specialised containers designed for transporting dangerous goods. While FIBCs are widely used for flowable products like powders and granules, only [UN-certified FIBCs are authorized](https://www.cliffepackaging.com/bulk-bags/) for transporting materials classified as dangerous goods under UN regulations. These containers are designed, manufactured, and tested in accordance with the United Nations Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods.
## UN Classification And Coding
The UN classification system designates specific codes for different FIBC types. The code 13H1 represents woven plastic without coating or liner, while 13H2 indicates woven plastic with coating. Bags with liners are designated as 13H3, and those with both coating and lining receive the 13H4 classification.
These containers are further categorised into Packing Groups based on the hazard level of the materials they contain. Packing Group I is reserved for materials presenting high danger, Group II for medium danger, and Group III for materials with lower hazard levels.
## Comprehensive Testing Requirements

Testing procedures include exposure to hot, cold, wet, and dry conditions. The drop testing protocol requires drops from a height of 1.8 meters for most packing groups, with multiple drops performed at different angles under maximum permitted load conditions.
The stacking test extends for a minimum of 24 hours under maximum permitted load at 40°C to evaluate deformation resistance. Top lift testing involves multiple lifting cycles at six times the maximum permitted load to assess lifting loop integrity. For flexible IBCs, a specific righting test verifies lifting capability at prescribed angles.
Tear and puncture resistance testing follows standardized protocols with minimum resistance requirements varying by packing group.
## Antistatic Protection Classifications
UN FIBCs come in several categories based on their electrostatic protection capabilities. Type A represents standard bags without static protection.
